Duffnerand Kimberly chinoiserie

Sale price$87,500.00

This Monumental Duffner and Kimberly Chinoiserie Lamp is, to our knowledge, the only known example of this design in existence. Produced by the Duffner & Kimberly Company of New York (est. 1905), this lamp represents the absolute pinnacle of the firm's ambition and artistry,  a unique piece that stands alone in the canon of American decorative lighting. The magnificent pagoda-form shade draws its inspiration from Chinese architecture, with a tiered roofline crowned by an ornate finial. Radiating panels of rich amber and caramel art glass fan outward from the peak, glowing with extraordinary warmth when illuminated. The lower border features intricate Chinese fretwork and geometric patterns in green and gold, while elaborate bronze metalwork frames the entire composition with architectural precision.

The base echoes the Asian-inspired theme with a square pedestal form featuring Chinese decorative motifs in gilt bronze — every element of this lamp was conceived as a unified statement of chinoiserie design.

Duffner & Kimberly operated for only five years (1906–1911), with co-founder Kimberly having trained at Tiffany Studios in the 1890s. Their brief production period makes even common designs scarce, a unique, one-of-a-kind example such as this is a discovery of the highest order. This lamp is not merely rare; it is singular. There is no other known example to compare it to.

A museum quality treasure and an unrepeatable opportunity for the most serious collector of American decorative arts.
