The Shade: Blown Artistry at Its Finest
The remarkable 10-inch "puffy" shade was created using Pairpoint's proprietary mold-blowing technique, in which molten glass was blown into an intricately carved metal mold to produce a three-dimensional sculptural form. The result is a breathtaking crouching owl rendered in high relief, with the glass itself shaped to capture the contours of the bird's plumage, face, and body.
The shade is masterfully reverse-painted in rich shades of brown, amber, and sienna, depicting the warm, layered feathers of a great horned owl. The face is dominated by two large, mesmerizing eyes — oyster-shaped areas painted in cream and white with brilliant yellow-gold irises and deep black pupils that seem to follow the viewer. A sharply defined beak in shades of maize and white sits between the piercing eyes. The border of the shade is adorned with lush green foliage, pine needles, and naturalistic limbs that frame the composition beautifully. The shade is signed.

The shade rests upon its original matching signed figural owl base, itself one of the rarest Pairpoint bases ever produced. The casting exhibits exceptional detail in the rendering of the owl's feathers, wings, talons, and alert posture. The base owl is fitted with original glass eyes featuring yellow irises that echo the shade above, creating a unified artistic composition.
The lamp is completed with a two-socket cluster and original acorn pull chains. The underside of the base bears the authentic Pairpoint hallmarks: "Pairpoint Mfg Co" with the iconic "P" inside a diamond.
