Tiffany Studios Floriform Vase
Signed: L.C.T. M7448
Height: 14 inches
Width: 5 inches
A tall and graceful floriform vase with the kind of quiet elegance that defines the best of the form. At fourteen inches, this is a commanding piece, slender, willowy, and perfectly proportioned.
The cup opens in a soft, gently ruffled rim that catches light along its undulating edge. The glass is a luminous amber-gold throughout the bowl, warm and translucent, with the kind of depth that only comes from Tiffany's metallic oxide formulations. Small, delicate green leaf forms are pulled upward from the base of the cup, subtle and restrained, they accent the warm amber body without competing with it. The iridescence across the surface shifts between gold, soft pink, and hints of violet depending on the angle of light.
The stem is long, slender, and straight, a clean, delicate line of pale green glass that gives the piece its height and its sense of lightness. It rises from a broad, flat circular foot finished in rich gold and green iridescence. The underside of the foot reveals beautiful swirling tones of blue, green, and violet, a hidden detail that speaks to the care taken with every surface of the piece.
The floriform was first developed at the Corona glasshouse by Tom Manderson, the first master blower to work under Tiffany. The "M" prefix in the production number dates this piece to 1900.
