Tiffany Studios Lotus Lamp
Circa 1905
The Tiffany Studios Lotus Leaf shade, also known as the Mandarin, on its original ribbed base. The Lotus is widely considered to be one of the most architecturally advanced designs Tiffany Studios ever produced.
The shade is an exceptionally shallow cone composed of more than 1,300 individual pieces of leaded glass, arranged in a precise ridge-and-groove pattern that radiates from the crown to the scalloped border. Twenty four midribs spring from the center, splitting into forty eight intermediary ribs, then again into ninety six end ribs near the edge, replicating the vein structure of an actual lotus leaf with extraordinary fidelity.
The base is a ribbed and fluted form on ball feet with a beautiful verdigris patina and retains its original cap.
